The Island Sports Trials Club (ISTC) is a club dedicated to the sport of observed motorcycle trials. It was started by a group of local enthusiasts in 1991, with rides and events scattered around the Cobble Hill and Shawnigan Lake area of Vancouver Island, BC. A piece of property (Crown land) was acquired at the south end of Shawnigan Lake in 1993, which now hosts between six and eight events per year. A map showing the location of the events is given below.

Event classes include Beginner, Novice, Junior, Vintage (twin rear shocks), Intermediate, Senior Intermediate, Sportsman, Senior Sportsman, Expert and Championship. We have something for everyone, and we encourage parents and children (five years or older) to come out and see what it's all about.

Club meetings are normally held approximately quarterly, on the first Tuesday of January, April, June and October at Kerry Park Arena in Mill Bay. The club banquet is held at the beginning of February and is where the year-end trophies are awarded.

Membership costs are:

$60 for individuals over 16 year
$75 for a family
$10 for non-riding members

Membership fees are for the year, or part thereof, and include free entry to the first event ridden in the year and a key to the club grounds. Entry fees for subsequent events are $10 per event.

  • The Joe Brown trial is a 2 day event, with vintage, novice and beginner classes on Saturday and other classes on Sunday. In order to encourage the vintage class, club members wishing to ride classes on both days need only pay a single entry fee.

  • PNTA events are not run by ISTC, but are of interest to club members. Details at www.pugetsoundtrialers.com.

  • The Victoria Motorcycle Club also runs trials on the Island, their events are listed at www.vmc.bc.ca , or follow the link on this site.
